I hope you're with me when it's over...
Monday, November 7, 2005 at 3:16AM Have you ever made a trip to the music store and come out with a purchase you are afraid to share with anyone? I mean, you just KNOW there will be laughing and finger-pointing. I've done this myself on a couple of occasions, but this weekend, it was all about the boyfriend's purchases. And they were humiliating. So humiliating that we had to pretend we were 9th graders again, doing an awkward new dance move called the "Cabbage Patch."
It started innocently enough. I went in looking for the new Lucinda Williams for me and Gwen Stefani for both my niece and myself. My niece is too cute when she sings "Hollaback Girl." Unfortunately, I did not realize we'd been listening to the radio edit. Somehow, I don't think my sister wants her 3 year old running around singing "This my shit, this my shit" at her Catholic preschool.
Anyhow, they were out of the new Lucinda Williams, so Gwen Stefani was my only purchase. Jeff, on the other hand, could not find his CD and went off the deep end, with the purchase of some Best of Loverboy and Best of the Culture Club.
I'll let you digest that for a moment.
I had fun the first couple of listens. But after Jeff played "Turn Me Loose," for the 40th time, I began singing those lyrics in earnest.
