Inspiration...

I never thought I would desire to knit something worn by Christina Aguilera, but there you have it.  I'm consoling myself in the fact that her fashion sense has evolved somewhat of late.  Anyhow, THIS is what I'm all excited about (click on the pink and brown version and the blue/brown version).  It's a Carolina Herrera sweater from the Spring 2006 collection.  I saw it on Christina Aguilera in OK! Magazine (please refrain from commenting on my trashy reading material).

Anyhow, I've searched for an updated, but preppie-style sweater or two to knit for a while now.  I knew I wanted to do a deep V-neck sweater with a striped, ribbed collar (almost like a school uniform) to wear over a crisp white shirt with trousers for work.  I also wanted kind of a different spin on a similar version to wear on more casual days or in warmer weather.  I'm thinking the deep-scooped Herrera version will look sweet with some wide-legged trousers and espresso pumps or wingtips. I'd also like to make one with kind of a corset-styled front and another in an argyle pattern.

Considering I've never actually knit or designed a sweater, this could be disasterous.  But I all these ideas have been brewing since visiting with my grandparents a couple of months ago and looking at some old photos of my grandmother (taken sometime in the 30's).  My grandmother had on the sweetest outfit.  She and her friends were standing next to an old (now, anyhow) car, and she was wearing a beret and some wide-legged sailor-style trousers (photos 26 and 28), with a short-sleeved sweater.  She looked every inch of Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde.  In any event, ever since I saw my grandmother's photo, I've been looking for 1930's inspired knitwear and designs that have that same feel.  And, of course, now that I have found the Faye Dunaway photo, I want to make that sweater, too.
............................

After stopping a minute to investigate the Faye Dunaway sweater, it appears I am not the only one excited about the Bonnie and Clyde sweater.  Nor am I the only one with an affinity for the deep neck and argyle.  Unfortunately, this means I will now while away more hours reading the new knitblogs I've found.  Well, I suppose I'll just have to suck it up. : )
